Faith Formation

- Catechesis is a responsibility of the entire Christian community. This is should not be the work of catechists and priests alone, but of the whole community of the faithful. The Christian community follows the development of catechetical processes, for children, young people and adults, as a duty that involves and binds it directly. (GDC 220) A fully Christian community can exist only when a systematic catechesis of all its members takes place and when an effective and well developed catechesis of adults is regarded as the central task of the catechetical enterprise.” (ACCC, no. 25).

  Below is information about our program.
  
  Class schedule for 2024-2025 academic year
  Grade 1 - Every Sunday from 8:30 a.m. - 9:15 a.m.
  Grade 2 - Every Sunday from 10:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.
  Grades 3 & 4 - Every Wednesday from 6:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.
  Grades 5 & 6 - Every Tuesday from 6:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.
  Grades 7 & 8 - Every Monday from 6:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.
  Grades 9 & 10 - Sunday nights starting with 5:00 Mass and followed by class (12 sessions for each). Grades 3 - 8 ONLY - Homeschool option (online or paper)
  
  Our Faith Formation program is a cumulative program, beginning in Grade 1 and continuing to Grade 10.
  
  The preparation for the Sacraments of First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion is a two year program, held at the Parish Center, with students beginning in Grade 1 and then receiving the Sacraments in Grade 2.
  
  For Grades 3 - 8, students can choose between attending classes during the weeknight or participating in our Homeschool program, either the online or paper option. For the homeschool online program, you receive the book, the Master Catechist chapter videos, and the links to the online test assessments. For the homeschool paper program, you receive the book, do the test assessment in the book, and return the test via email or place it in the dropoff box located outside the Parish Center entrance. Even though we are fortunate to be able to offer a homeschool program for Grades 3 - 8, we hope you strongly consider having your child attend class as we do so many activities throughout the year to foster a deeper understanding of our faith and build fellowship among their peers.
  
  The preparation for Confirmation is a two year program (CY1 and CY2), held at the Parish Center, with students beginning in Grade 9 and then receiving Confirmation in Grade 10. The classes are held at the Parish Center on Sunday evenings (CY1 on one Sunday and CY2 the following Sunday, etc.) beginning with the 5:00 Mass and followed by class in the Parish Center. There are 12 sessions for each. To enroll in the Confirmation program, students must have completed 8 years of Faith Formation, either by religious education through their Parish or by attending a Catholic School.
  
  IMPORTANT: Any new student to our program who was NOT Baptized at Saint Mary's in Mansfield must provide a copy of his/her Baptismal Certificate. If you do not have a copy of the certificate, you can call the Church where the Baptism was performed to obtain a new certficiate. You do not need to wait to register if you do not have a copy. Please register now, but send a copy of the certficate via email to [email protected] as soon as possible.

  NOTE: If you have a child entering into the Confirmation 2 program, please add an additional $15 fee per child for the cost of renting the Confirmation robe.

  If you would prefer to pay via check (written out to Saint Mary's Church) or cash (exact amount), you can either mail it to Saint Mary's Church, 330 Pratt Street, Mansfield MA 02048, hand it in during my office hours at the Parish Center, Monday - Thursday 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m, or place it in the drop off box located outside the Parish Center office.
